Contrast, contrast, contrast is usually key to effective models.
And something I’m pretty bad at, or certainly have to consciously push.
There’s a few things you can change beyond straight colour:
- Value (light to dark)
- Chroma (colour strength)
- Hue (colour)
- (And texture, but that’s hard so I’m going to ignore it)
With the priority of the effectiveness of that contrast being the order they are listed in. And combining them together increases their effectiveness. (ie Dark Red vs bright blue etc)
And then you want harmony even with the contrast, so it doesn’t look garish. That’s what I was worried about with my Escher above, I’d used greens and reds on the model but if the blue on the base didn’t have enough green in it then it might look out of balance.
